The Turner Prize is a contemporary art award that was created in 1984 as a way to honor new developments in contemporary art. Each year, the prize is awarded to a British artist under the age of fifty for an outstanding exhibition or presentation of their work that took place in the previous year.
Sculptor Martin Boyce was the winner of the 2011 Turner Prize.
Work by the shortlisted artists will be shown in an exhibition at Tate Britain opening on October 2, 2012. The Turner Prize winner will be announced at Tate Britain on December 3, 2012.
