EXPO CHICAGO is proud to partner with the Society for Contemporary Art at the Art Institute of Chicago. On Saturday, June 2, 2012, the Society for Contemporary Art will host their 2012 Benefit. The fifth benefit in support of the Art Institute of Chicago, all proceeds will be used to purchase artwork for the Art Institute’s Department of Contemporary Art.
One of the season’s most anticipated events, the benefit will be held at S.R. Crown Hall, the mid-century masterpiece designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Hosted in the historic architectural gem, the art auction is held alongside an elegant dinner party, and the evening’s entertainment includes a performance by the renowned musical group ICE: International Contemporary Ensemble.

The benefit will feature a live and silent auction featuring artwork by established, emerging and cutting-edge artists. Other items to be auctioned include incredible vacations, trips and experiences. The art auction includes works by artists such as Mel Bochner, Carroll Dunham, Cecelia Edefalk, Jeff Koons, Brice Marden, Albert Oehlen, Jessica Stockholder, Wolfgang Tillmans, Rebecca Warren and many others.
Hosted by Chairs Michelle Edwards and Patty Sternberg alongside Co-Chairs David Egeland and Scott Hunter, the event will be a gathering of Chicago finest including artists, architects, dealers, artists, collectors and patrons of the arts.
Nothing better expresses Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s philosophy than S.R. Crown Hall, home to the College of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology and a modern masterpiece. Designed in 1956, Crown Hall is a National Historic Landmark and a straightforward expression of construction and materiality, which allows the structure to transcend into art.
Founded at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1940, the SCA’s mission is to promote a better understanding and appreciation of the art of our time. Monthly member programs include access to leading national and international artists, dealers, critics, historians and curators, as well as visits to distinguished private collections locally and abroad.
